Rachel Newman
Deputy Head of Education

Rachel holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and Social Inclusion and started her career working with adults with learning disabilities. After doing this for a couple of years Rachel then became a Learning Support Assistant in a secondary school where she was a one to one communicator with a student who was hearing impaired. It was during this role that Rachel decided to do her PGCE and pursue a career in teaching.

Rachel secured a teaching job while training and went on to teach literacy to 16-18 year olds for seven years. Rachel holds a level 5 Adult Literacy Qualification, Digital Literacy Practitioners Certificate and CADP in British Sign Language. Rachel has a passion for education and is a firm believer that everyone is capable of learning.

As the Deputy Head of Education, Rachel is responsible for the management and support of Lecturers and Learning Support Assistants. Rachel works in partnership with the Head of Education to ensure a high level of meaningful education is provided in classrooms and is the first point of call for the education team day to day. Rachel also works alongside residential teams to ensure students are attending and developing their skills during sessions as well as supporting and maintaining relationships with ESTYN, awarding bodies and external agencies.
