Café Uno and The Hub Cinema-Open for Business!

Staff, patients and professionals celebrated the arrival of Heatherwood Court’s brand new American style coffee shop and cinema, at a grand opening event which took place on Wednesday 14th October.

The construction of Café Uno and The Hub cinema has taken months of hard work and speaking about the new development, Jo Davies, Facilities Manager commented that “the new coffee bar and cinema is part of an ongoing effort to continuously improve the quality of patients’ environments and provide opportunities for both skill development and leisure”.

All of the patients have been heavily involved in the creation of the new facilities at Heatherwood Court and will continue to be included, developing skills through work placements in the café and also, of course, enjoying relaxed leisure time.

Throughout the course of the afternoon, there was extra reason to celebrate with many of the patients being awarded level 1 food hygiene certificates following a course of study. In addition, the kitchen at Heatherwood was also presented with 2 gold awards from the Food Standards Agency in Wales, demonstrating the highest possible standard of hygiene and healthy food options.

Chris Lovell, Clinical and Business Development Director added that “the opening was a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in mental health issues – social workers, community learning disability / mental health teams and commissioners– to join us and learn more about the work we do at Heatherwood Court, and across the organisation as a whole”.

As well being able to take a look at the facilities, people were able to sample the delicious coffee menu and dine from our ‘all American’ buffet, which had been especially prepared by our own in-house catering team. To add a bit of glamour to the proceedings, staff, patients and guests were also greeted by our celebrity look-a-like, Sean Connery and were able to take away a souvenir photo of the day.
