Growing Independence

Any service which promotes recovery must promote the maintenance and activities of daily living and self-care.  At OCS, our clients learn to develop their cooking skills, to clean and tidy, to wash and/or iron and to take general responsibility for their daily self-care in a homely, supportive and safe environment.

Linked to this is the development of financial and budgeting skills - how to access benefits, filling in forms, opening bank accounts, learning to save or paying bills.

As we are promoting recovery towards the greatest independence possible, attention is turned to housing needs by developing skills to access housing associations and make applications, identifying how to utilise private landlords and building the very basic skills of house maintenance, such as how to change a plug, unblock a sink or how to decorate.
